Frequently asked questions
Below are frequently asked questions to help you make the best decisions when choosing a new pup from us. Please let us know if you have any questions that aren't answered below.

What are typical health concerns related to German Shorthaired Pointers?
Typically, GSPs are a healthy breed. Like all animals, diseases and health issues arise. We test all our dogs for GSP related concerns such as Von Willebrand Disease (which is blood disorder which affects the body to clot blood), Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 8, NCL 8 (which is a rare, inherited neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive brain degeneration, leading to loss of motor and cognitive skills, seizures, and vision impairment), Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuopathy (which consists of a group of genetic disorders affecting the peripheral nervous system, with two variants identified in Border Collies and Spaniels/Pointers, characterized by progressive neurological signs), and Day Blindness (which is a condition characterized by impaired vision in bright light due to degeneration of cone photoreceptors, which are responsible for color vision and daytime vision). All of our dogs are cleared of these diseases and verified through DNA testing.

Is there any type of health guarantee that comes with your puppies?
Yes! We have a 30 month health AND hunt guarantee that covers all serious life-altering congenital disease or genetic defects as well as the dog to have natural instincts in the field. Gun shyness and bird shyness are not covered under this warranty.

Do you ship your puppies?
We do not offer shipping pups any longer. Instead, we offer ground transport through a commercially insured, family owned, transport team.
Will you sell to a non hunting home?
Yes, we have many families that have our dogs that do not hunt. It's very important to know and understand the requirements of this breed, they are not for game playing/couch potato households. They need daily exercise, both mentally and physically. And, they will let you know they're not having their needs met by acting out. These behaviors could include barking, taking family belongings, counter surfing, digging in the garbage, not listening, and more.

What type of exercise does this breed require?
GSPs are very energetic dogs and need to have space to openly run and stretch their legs in addition to stimulating their minds. Dog parks are generally not suggested as too many accidents happen there. While many people think taking their GSP for a daily walk on a leash will suffice, it doesn't. They require at least one to two hours of vigorous daily exercise, including activities like running, hiking, swimming, or playing fetch, along with mental stimulation through training and games

Will you take back the dog if I’m no longer able to keep them?
While we hope that circumstances won't ever come to this, we certainly understand it can happen. We will (and require) the pup/dog to be returned to us, for any reason. We take great pride in our dogs, and want them to be in homes that are right for them and if living in your home no longer fits, the pup/dog will welcomed back.

Do you use a sales contract?
Yes, we do. And it explains both our expectations as the breeder, and of yours, as the buyer. The interest of pup/dog is our priority, so we set stipulations in place, such as vet visits, proper exercise and care, continued communication, restrictions on breeding your new pup/dog, prohibition of selling/placing the pup/dog with anyone else, and proper containment for your pup/dog.

Is the deposit refundable?
Unfortunately, deposits are non-refundable. If you’re looking for something specific and it doesn’t appear in the litter, you can transfer your deposit to a future litter.

Are we able to come see the pups in person to make our selection?
Yes, you are more than welcome to come visit the pups, once they are older, to pick you puppy out. If you are unable to visit, we will make arrangements for you to get as much information necessary to pick your pup out. While we do not choose the pup for you, we will offer our advice as to which pups will fit your home/lifestyles, and sometimes, it may not be the pup you were hoping to bring home.

Do you offer training services?
At this time, we do not offer any type of training. We do refer our pups to highly trained professionals that will work with you to ensure your pup becomes everything you hope, both in the home and field.

Do you offer stud service?
We do offer stud service to approved females only. Contact us to get more information on this.
